How to start an online business for $0 with Systeme.io (2026)
By Top Shelf Picks · October 30, 2026 · Plan limits are from systeme.io/pricing as accessed on that date. The steps and advice are our opinion.
What the free plan gives you (per Systeme.io): up to 2,000 contacts, 3 sales funnels, 1 blog, 1 course, 1 affiliate program, 1 custom domain and unlimited email sends. It never expires and needs no credit card. Lower limits apply elsewhere, including 1 automation rule and 1 email campaign. Systeme.io also says all plans have 0% transaction fees (you still pay your payment processor's fees, such as Stripe's or PayPal's).
Step 1: Pick one offer and one audience
Write one sentence: "I help [who] get [result] with [thing]." A small digital product (a template pack, a mini-course, a guide) is the easiest first offer because there's no inventory.
Step 2: Create your free account
Sign up, connect a payment processor (Systeme.io lists Stripe, PayPal and others), and use the free subdomain until you need your own domain (the free plan includes 1 custom domain).
Step 3: Build a lead magnet + opt-in funnel
Use one of your 3 funnels for a simple two-step funnel: an opt-in page offering a free checklist or mini-guide, then a thank-you page that delivers it. Keep the page to a headline, three bullets and an email field.
Step 4: Write a short welcome sequence
Since emails are unlimited, write 3-5 emails: deliver the freebie, share one useful lesson, tell your story, then introduce your offer. The free plan's limits on automation rules mean you should keep the logic simple at first.
Step 5: Launch your first product
Use the 1 free course slot or a sales funnel with a checkout page. Price it low to start, and get your first buyers' feedback before building more.
Step 6: Drive traffic and measure
Free options: answer questions in communities where your audience asks them (follow each community's rules), post useful short content that links to your opt-in page, and start a blog on Systeme.io's included blog. Track one number weekly: new subscribers.
When to upgrade
| Contacts | Plan Systeme.io suggests | Price (monthly billing) |
|---|---|---|
| Under 2,000 | Free | $0 |
| 2,000-5,000 | Startup | $17/mo |
| 5,000-10,000 | Webinar (adds evergreen webinars) | $47/mo |
| 10,000+ | Unlimited | $97/mo |
The pricing page also advertises "2 months free," which applies to annual billing.
Honest downsides (our opinion)
- Templates are functional rather than beautiful. Designers may want more control.
- Free plan automation is minimal (1 rule), so complex sequences need a paid plan.
- If you only want a newsletter, a dedicated tool like beehiiv may suit you better. See our newsletter guide.
